The Gloucester High School varsity girls got back to their winning ways Monday with a 4-1 victory over Indian River the in quarterfinals of the Conference 10 Softball Tournament. Freshman Kayla Tobin (1-1) pitched superbly as she scattered five hits over seven innings with only one walk and one unearned run.
The Dukes committed two errors in the second inning to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. They tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Tori Brown drove in Morgan Haywood with a two-out single.
Tobin, pitching for the injured Haywood, stranded runners in scoring position in every inning but the first and fourth. In the fifth, Macy Robbins walked and scored from first base for a 2-1 Gloucester lead when the Braves’ left fielder and center fielder collided on a fly ball.
