The Gloucester High School varsity softball team defeated both the Denbigh Patriots and the Menchville Monarchs this past week.
The Lady Dukes beat the Patriots, 16-2, last Thursday. Gloucester pitcher Sadie Bowden picked up the win and also went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Chicky Boles pitched the fifth inning, striking out two batters.
Samantha Carlton had two hits with three at bats and achieved two doubles. Hannah Horsley (three RBIs), Kaia Hutton and Cameron Palas (two RBIs) each had two hits, including a double. Shyanne Carlton also contributed two hits for Gloucester.
The Lady Dukes defeated Menchville, 16-11, Tuesday night. Menchville led, 7-3, in the fifth inning, but walked the first three hitters of the inning. Hannah Horsley hit a double to right center field to cut the lead to 7-5. Grace Sinko-VanLiew then walked, which forced a run to cut the lead to 7-6.
