Lady Dukes #2 seed in PD hockey tourney

Gloucester High School field hockey players hold the second seed in this week’s Peninsula District Tournament being played at Christopher Newport University. The Lady Dukes were scheduled to take on third-seeded Kecoughtan yesterday. The finals are today at 6 p.m.

Gloucester finished the regular season schedule last week with a 2-1 win over Grafton in non-district play and a 5-0 win over Warwick. The Dukes shut out all of their PD opponents this season with the exception of Denbigh, which won a 2-1 contest on a penalty stroke in overtime, on the way to building a 15-1 record. The Patriots were undefeated in district play.

Gloucester coach Mike Miller said the fact that his team finished in second place with a 15-1 record shows how competitive the Peninsula District is. "You almost have to be perfect to be in first place," he said.
