The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team hosted a five-team jamboree on Saturday, as the Lady Devils prepared for tonight’s season opener at New Kent.
Mathews faced off against Jamestown, Menchville, Peninsula Catholic and Warhill in the preseason contest, with each team playing two sets against the other.
The Lady Devils had their best performance in the eight years they have held the jamboree, winning seven out of the eight sets played, making Mathews the overall winner of the day.
MHS started off its day beating the Warhill Lions by scores of 25-19 and 25-20. Team serving leaders were Kacie Austin and Mackenzie Moughon with two aces apiece, followed by Maddie McCann with one.
Moughon led the team with 11 digs followed by Rachel Close, Teeny Robbins, and McCann with five each. Lindsay Crigler had 15 assists, while Moughon led the team in kills with 12, followed by Robbins with four, Austin with two and Shelby Ware with one. "After getting down to a 14-4 de...
