The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up two Tidewater District wins during the past week, beating West Point and Middlesex in straight sets.
MHS easily defeated the homestanding Pointers three sets to none last Thursday, with all of the Devils getting some playing time. Casey Parrish led the team in kills with 13, followed by Mackenzie Moughon (seven), Maddie McCann (five), Kacie Austin (four), Teeny Robbins (three) and Mercedes Wells (two). Girls contributing aces were McCann (nine), Parrish (four), Moughon (three), Robbins and Austin (two apiece) and Lindsay Crigler (one).
Parrish led the team with seven digs, followed by Rachel Close (four), Crigler, Austin, Robbins, Moughon and Hailey Abernathy (two each) and McCann (one). Crigler had a team-leading 17 assists, while Shelby Ware was credited with nine and Austin had two.
