The Mathews High School varsity softball team compiled a 6-2 Tidewater District record this season, placing second to King William in both regular season and tournament play.
After winning a regional quarterfinal game on May 28 against Essex, the Lady Devils’ season came to an end the following day when the MHS girls fell to King William in the semifinals of the Region A, Division II softball tournament. King William went on to win the regional title before losing to Goochland in the state tournament.
Mathews players received a number of All-District selections. Named to the first team All-District were Taylor Denton (outfield) and Bailey Kujawski (at large). Second-team picks for Mathews were Kayla Robins (pitcher), Carole Bell (catcher), Taylor South and Hunter Thomas (infielders), and Madison Owens (at large). Kujawski was the only Lady Devil to earn All-Region honors.
