The Lady Blue Devils have been hit or miss this season. Mathews High’s varsity girls’ softball team has been battling scheduling conflicts and the weather to get practices and games in.
MHS played in the Lancaster Invitational over spring break on April 6. The first game the Devils played was against Greenbrier Christian Academy. After eight innings of what basically was a pitching duel, the pitcher for Greenbrier hit a two-run home run to break the stalemate, 2-0. The only hit from Mathews was from junior captain Carole Bell.
The consolation game was played against Lancaster and was quickly out of reach for Lancaster when MHS started racking up hits, shutting out the hosts 6-0. Contributing hits for Mathews were Hunter Thomas and Allison Foster (1-for-3), Taylor South (1-for-4), Amanda Miller (2-for-4), and Bell (3-for-4).
