Lady Devils 5-0 in conference play

The Mathews High School varsity softball team improved to 5-0 in conference play with a win over West Point this week. The Blue Devils earned only five hits, but still managed to walk off the field with a 10-0 victory in the six-inning game.
Lexie Miles (1-for-1, single, sacrifice, two RBIs) and Madison Owens (2-for-3, single, double, two RBIs, three runs scored) led the Devils at the plate. Madison South and Taylor South each also added a hit. Owens pitched all six innings, allowing six walks and one hit while striking out 10 West Point batters.
On Monday, the Devils traveled to Nandua where they were handed a 4-3 loss by the Warriors. Mathews scored first when Owens hit an out-of-the-park home run in the first inning to give the Devils a 1-0 lead after one complete inning. However, Nandua produced an out-of-the park home run of their own in the second inning to even the score at 1-1. Mathews scored again in the fifth inning on a walk by Carole Bell, a sacrifice bunt by Keely Crittend...
