K&Q man arrested following Mathews shooting

The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of Chapel Neck Road on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Deputies arrived at the scene and located a victim who had been shot several times. The suspect allegedly opened fire with what is believed to be an automatic weapon, striking the victim and his vehicle multiple times. He then reached inside the victim’s vehicle and removed property belonging to the victim before fleeing the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim was airlifted to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News in stable condition.
During the initial investigation, a suspect was identified, and a description of the suspect’s vehicle was obtained. Surrounding jurisdictions were notified of the suspect’s description and his vehicle. King and Queen County located the vehicle and later apprehended the suspect without incident.
