The public is invited to attend the quarterly meeting of the King and Queen County Historical Society, which will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Smithfield, located near St. Stephens Church, in King and Queen County.
Smithfield, built circa 1781 by William Hill, has been in the Smith family since 1832, when it was acquired by James Smith. Richard Rumrill, the third great-grandson of James Smith, will speak to members and guests regarding stabilization and reanimation work done on the house and its dependencies.
From the St. Stephens Church traffic light on Route 360, turn onto Newtown Road (Route 721), and then turn right into the Smithfield driveway, approximately one mile past the light; look for the historical society sign.
