Kenneth (Kenny) Atwood Carpenter, 84, of Gloucester, Virginia, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born on June 24, 1940, he was a lifelong resident of York and Gloucester counties. He graduated from the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School and was a retired welder with Boilermakers Local Union 45. Kenny was a master boatbuilder and was featured in an award-winning television documentary, “They Live in Guinea.” He was a member of Chincoteague Masonic Lodge (Accomack 243).
He is survived by his wife, Jane Hall Carpenter; daughter, Coleen Marchese; stepdaughter, Lynn Hall Campbell and son-in-law, Brian Campbell; grandchildren, Rob Carpenter, Amber Hedden, Ryan Brooks, Brittany Breen, Colby Breen, and Carly Breen, and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert Carpenter; stepdaughter, Lisa Breen, and grandchildren, Shanna Carpenter and Kenny Carpenter.
The graveside service is private and under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester.
