Keep an eye out for bank phishing scams, Atlantic Union warns

Banks across the country, including Atlantic Union Bank, have seen a sharp increase in attempted phishing scams in recent weeks and according to recent reports, digital scams for financial institutions are up tenfold.
To help consumers protect their accounts and personal information, Kevin King, Atlantic Union Bank’s financial fraud prevention expert, offers the following tips:
—Don’t click on text message links. Scammers are impersonating banks and reaching out by text to verify transactions. In many cases, the links in these texts take customers to fake websites where fraudsters are stealing log-in credentials. Fake texts often include typos and create an urgency to click links.
—Protect your personal information. If you receive a call or text asking for your personal information related to your bank account, do not respond. Your bank would never call or text asking for online banking credentials, passcodes to verify your account or an account number or PIN.
