Kathryn Virginia Phelps Pulley, 95, of Nottoway County, Va., passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Heron Cove in Gloucester, Va.
The funeral service was held at graveside at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, conducted by the Rev. W. Joseph Winfree, pastor of Corinth United Methodist Church of Sandston, Va. Visitation followed the funeral service at The Herb Cottage in Blackstone, to share memories of Kathryn’s long and full life.
“Honey” was born on May 9, 1918, to Everett Clyde Phelps and Lorena Gail White Phelps in Crewe, Va. She was the sixth of eight children and the last to survive. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Howard Wildman “Wiley” Pulley, who died April 13, 1992. Together, they ran Crystal Lake in Nottoway, Va., in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Wayne and Gib Pulley of Mathews, and Keith and Pat Pulley of Midlothian, Va.; her grandchildren and spouses, Rick and Sarah Pulley Hylton, Sam and Julie Pulley Grey, Jason and Kathryn Pulley Perry, Wesley and Lauren Pulley, Scott and Kathie Pulley Maze, and Morgan Pulley; her great-grandchildren, Abby, Gibson and Ben Hylton, Emily and Mac Grey, Jack and Mason Perry, James Pulley, Rylie and Carsen Maze.
Kathryn is remembered for her sense of adventure, her kindness and generosity, her sweetness tempered with spunky forthrightness, her fun-loving attitude and flexibility, her wonderful laugh and her strong sense of family.
