Kathryn Hudgins Callis, 89, died May 19, 2012 at her home on Gwynn’s Island, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mava Hudgins and a brother, Fay Hudgins, all of Cobbs Creek, Va.

She was a 50-year member of Oriental Chapter No. 30, OES and a member of the Mathews County Woman’s Club. She was also a member of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Willie R. Callis; daughters, Lisa Callis of Richmond, Va. and Mava C. Miles and her husband Steve of New Kent, Va.; one sister, Norma H. Thomas and her husband Carl D. of Moon, Va.; grandchildren, Willie R. Miles and Madison S. Miles of New Kent; a sister-in-law, Christine Hudgins, and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends for visitation at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012, followed by a graveside service at 11 o’clock in Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.

The family extends thanks and gratitude to her many caregivers, Riverside Walter Reed Hospice and Dr. Christian Wathen and staff.

Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va., was in charge of the arrangements.
