KARL WALLACE MILLER

Karl Wallace Miller (October 13, 1945-September 10, 2023) of Hayes, died after a brief hospitalization surrounded by Ginny, his wife of 55 years, and his children and grandchildren. Karl, one of seven children, grew up the son of a Presbyterian minister between Dover, New Jersey, and Slaughter Beach, Delaware. He was an avid boater, fisherman, biker, and woodworker who also enjoyed camping. Karl dedicated 26 years to the U.S. Navy, serving in reserve duty stations throughout the country, retiring from his final posting in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. Additionally, he served aboard the USS Forrestal out of Mayport, Florida, and the USS Vulcan and USS Shadwell out of Norfolk, Virginia. It was his posting to Cheatham Annex that brought him to Tidewater.

Karl was a member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, serving as an adult Sunday school teacher, encouraging Biblical mastery with ice cream and chocolate bribery. He volunteered on various committees and was a major proponent of the church’s Fred Meyer Scholarship. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Minerva Miller, and his brother, Byard. He is survived by his wife, Ginny; daughter, Rachel Schiera (Tony); son, Ian Miller (Christine); daughter, Abigail Healey, and grandchildren, Tian, Silas, Tehva, Levi, McHenry, Emmett, and Theodore. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on September 16, 2023 at Susanna Wesley UMC. The inurnment will be private.
