JV Lady Devils improve record to 8-1

The Mathews High School junior varsity softball team upped its season record to 8-1 following recent wins over Northumberland, Poquoson, Lancaster and Middlesex.
On April 1, the Northumberland JV girls traveled to Mathews and left feeling pranked. The Lady Devils showed an unstoppable defense, allowing only one run and ending the game in the top of the seventh with a double play by Harley Haydon to win, 7-1.
The next day, Mathews traveled to Poquoson to face off against the Poquoson Islanders. Mathews jumped out to an early 7-1 lead on the way to a slaughter-rule victory. Haydon made her first appearance on the pitching mound in the third inning. The fourth inning began with a triple by Andie Schlosshan. Two walks by the Islander pitcher loaded the bases for Hallie Duncan’s single which brought in two more runs. A single by Micaela Sadler brought in the last run of the inning expanding the Lady Devils’ lead to 10-1, eventually winning 12-2.
