JV Lady Devils fall to Lancaster, Westmoreland

Despite strong play from the Mathews High School girls’ volleyball team, the JV Lady Devils dropped a pair of home games this past week, falling in straight sets to Lancaster and Westmoreland.
Lancaster
In last Thursday’s contest against Lancaster, MHS player Kaitlyn Ball started the game off strong, scoring four points with her serves, including an ace. Ellie Congrove followed with another ace, but that wasn’t enough as Mathews dropped that set, 25-16, and fell in the second as well to give the visiting Red Devils the win.
Westmoreland
On Tuesday, the visiting Eagles took the win, 2-0, but the final score didn’t define the match. The first set was a tight one, with Westmoreland holding a narrow 7-6 lead at the first timeout. Soon after, Mya Schroeder scored a kill for Mathews and Hannah Davis scored two aces. The set continued with Harmony Smith scoring three points with her serves.
Mathews eventually fell in that first set and lost the second and deciding set as well.
