JV Lady Devils fall to Chargers, beat Trojans

The Mathews High School JV volleyball team split two games this week, suffering a loss to Middlesex and gaining a win against Essex in recent action.
Mathews lost to Middlesex in two sets. During the first set, Mya Schroeder earned a kill and an ace against the Chargers.The JV Lady Devils defeated the Essex Trojans in three sets (25-18, win; 25-20, loss; 15-12, win) on the road Monday night.
Marley Brock, Harmony Smith, Natalie Davis and Schroeder served a combined eight aces in the first set. Carter Hayes got a kill that was assisted by Schroeder and Delaney Boatman, also in the first set.
In the final set, Hayes and Brock each went on a serving streak and had one ace apiece, while Schroeder had two aces. Hayes ended the match with a kill.
The JV Lady Devils will return to gameplay Tuesday night at home as it faces Northampton.
