JV Lady Devils beat West Point; varsity girls fall to Pointers

In the final game before winter break, the Mathews High School girls’ varsity and JV basketball teams hosted West Point on Friday. The evening was a mixed bag for the Blue Devils, with the Mathews JV girls winning, 10-8, and the varsity squad falling to the Pointers, 41-26.
JV Devils
In a low-scoring battle, the JV Lady Devils held on to a narrow lead to win at the final buzzer. The first quarter saw the most scoring with the JV Lady Devils leading, 6-5. Going into the locker room at halftime, Mathews held a two-point lead, 8-6. The two teams only added two points apiece in the second half to give Mathews the win. Top scorer was Adrianna Forrest with eight points.
Varsity Devils
Next up were the varsity Blue Devils. The first quarter started off great for Mathews, pulling out to a 14-10 lead. The Pointers took the lead in the second quarter, creeping ahead at halftime, 22-16.
