JV girls fall to Pointers, Chargers

The Mathews High School JV volleyball team lost two hard-fought games to two Tidewater District foes this past week, losing to West Point and Middlesex.
West Point
The Lady Devils hosted the visiting Pointers last Thursday for the Dig Pink game in support of breast cancer research. Mathews had a bit of a rocky start, but Kaitlyn Ball came through with the first kill. Mathews took its first timeout as they were not communicating well and trailing 13-2. Ball then served two aces once Mathews got the ball back in its possession. After her serves, the team built up energy and Harmony Smith got a kill.
The comeback fell short however, losing the first game, 25-10. While Mathews played well in the second game, the Devils fell, 25-16.
Middlesex
Mathews traveled to Middlesex on Tuesday to face the Chargers. Shelby Ray got the first free ball kill of the night for Mathews that Middlesex did not expect, followed by an ace from Mya Schroeder. Hannah Davis and Shelby Ray also scored aces in the fi...
