In the final game before Winter Break, the Mathews High School JV girls’ basketball team picked up a 15-5 win on Friday against West Point. The varsity Devils, however, didn’t fare as well, falling on the road to the Pointers, 52-35.
In the JV contest, Mathews controlled the low-scoring game, taking a 10-2 lead into halftime. The top scorer of the game was Kylee Swanson with eight points.
Next up were the varsity Blue Devils. Mathews tried to keep up with the Pointers through the first and second quarters but ended up going into the locker room trailing by 11 points. Mathews did outscore West Point in the final quarter, 17-14, but it wasn’t enough to challenge for the lead. Grayson Griffith scored 17 of the 35 Blue Devil points to lead Mathews in scoring.
