The Mathews High School boys’ basketball teams returned to the court on Tuesday following winter break, with the JV squad winning a 55-50 thriller against Middlesex, and the varsity team falling to the visiting Chargers, 77-45.

The JV Devils continued their three-game win streak with an exciting victory against the Middlesex Chargers. Middlesex began the game on a fast-paced run, but Mathews continued to fight. Mathews trailed by 10 points at the half, 32-22.
The third quarter was back and forth, with neither team making big plays. Desmond Darby led the team with 26 points. Superb defense in the closing minutes and 14 points by Colin Moore helped the Devils surge past Middlesex.
