JUNE CREWE ROWE

June Crewe Rowe, age 91, passed on to her heavenly home on July 5, 2023. She had been a resident of Riverside Lifelong Health and Rehab-Mathews for over 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur C. Rowe; son, Sammy Rowe; parents, Floyd Earl Crewe and Melva Sadler Crewe; brother, Stephen Scott Crew; daughter-in-law, Lynne Rowe; twin granddaughters, Lisa and Teresa Rowe, and brother-in-law, Lowry K. Hudgins Sr.

She is survived by her children, Michael Rowe of North, Va., Sue Mitchem (Ronnie) of Moon, Va., Ellen Rowe of Mathews, Arthur “Clem” Rowe Jr. of North, and Polly Almeida of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter-in-law, Pam Rowe of Ark, Va.; grandchildren, David Rowe (Susan), Jason Rowe (Emilie), Melinda West (Robby), Lee Mitchem (Mary), Wesley Rowe (Tracie), Deanna Harris (Phillip) and Logan Sumner; great-grandchildren, Courtney Rowe, Gavin Rowe, Sienna Rowe, Lauren Jones, Justin Jones, Brianna Rowe, Grace Rowe, Elijah Harris, Mirielle Harris and Avangeline Mitchem, and her sister, Glenna Hudgins.

June was a member of Salem UMC, Diggs, Va., where she was treasurer for 20 years and held various other positions. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Rowe retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service, 19 of which were as Postmaster at the Mathews location.

While rearing her six children, she participated in and was president of Lee-Jackson PTA, Mathews Intermediate School, and Mathews High School. She was treasurer of the Mathews Little League shortly after its organization. June was a charter member of the Chesapeake Bay Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons, having served as president and treasurer. She was a volunteer in the Spousal Abuse Program and volunteered in the tutoring program at Lee-Jackson School for many years. Mrs. Rowe also volunteered for the American Red Cross. June was known for her card ministry, spending numerous hours at the card counter selecting cards for “everyone’s” birthday and other occasions. June loved to travel and did so from Hawaii to Puerto Rico.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs. Interment followed in Milford Cemetery. The family received friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
