Joyce Elizabeth Carter Washington, 81, passed away March 5, 2025, at her home in Gloucester.

She retired in 2023 from her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She had been an usher at the former Smithfield Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie R Carter; her mother, Laura Mae Banks; brother, Willie Carter, and her sister, Shirley Carter.

Survivors include her children, Oletha, Linda, Paula, Paul, Franklin, Leroy and Jerry; her siblings, Lee Roy Carter and Barry Allen; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Abraham, Gloucester, at noon Saturday, March 15.
