JOYCE ANN BELVIN WILLIAMS

Joyce Ann Belvin Williams, age 88, of Gloucester County, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, with Hayes holding her hand as he had done many times for over 75 years. She was born on May 26, 1935 to the late Avery and Carrie King Belvin of Achilles. Joyce graduated from Achilles High School in 1952, as well as Hampton Roads Business College in Newport News, and she worked for several years at the Naval Weapons Station near Yorktown. On June 2, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Cabot Hayes Williams; they enjoyed traveling and took their two sons to all the contiguous 48 states, and the National Parks were her favorite destination. After their sons were adults, Joyce and Hayes traveled to all of the continents of the world. Bird-watching was a large part of their travel as well as time at home. She was in several bird clubs, native plant clubs, and other conservation organizations. Appreciation of God’s creation was a large part of her life as she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving in various capacities in Baptist churches from youth until her health no longer allowed. These included teaching Sunday school, leading youth organizations, singing in choirs, Sunday School Superintendent, WMU mission’s planner and leader, vacation Bible school worker, or wherever she was needed. We would like to thank the staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and Hospice for their care through her long illness.

In addition to her parents, son Roger Williams preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Cabot Hayes Williams; son, David (Kim); granddaughters, Blair Nein (Johnny) and Lindsey Williams; great-grandson, John Robert Nein III; sister, Estelle Harris; nephews, Robert Harris Jr., Brian Harris; niece, Karen Russo, and a host of aunts, uncles and “Sam” the cat. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Hogg Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Bill West and the Rev. Ray Goude Jr. Inurnment will be private. Joyce loved flowers; however, she would appreciate memorial contributions to Gloucester Point Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
