Joseph H. McGee III of Gloucester, known to most as Mac, passed away in his sleep on December 18, 2023. He was born in Richmond, Va., on May 7, 1943 to the late Eunice B. McGee and Joseph H. McGee Jr., and graduated from George Wythe High School in Richmond. He served in the Army Reserve and had a 32-year career with the telephone company. At an early age, Mac professed his faith at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, their family church, and was forever grateful to his Granny Gee, Pop, Granny Koch, her husband Pete, and his much-loved Aunt Emily. He was a member of Severn Church and Botetourt Masonic Lodge No. 7 AF and AM, Gloucester. He is survived by the love of his life, Sandra Douglass McGee, and loved the life they built together, making their yard and home beautiful, propagating flowers, playing pool, and fishing. He also leaves to cherish his memory his son, Joseph H. McGee IV. Also surviving him are Ronnie Wooddell, Sabrina Young (Mark) and family, Ed Douglass, Skye Douglass, and many friends. He took great pride in trying to guide others to make wise choices in their life and will be remembered as a kind and unique man known for his generous heart. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 23, 2023, from 2-2:45 p.m. at Severn Church, 9066 Robins Neck Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061. The funeral service will begin at 3 o’clock conducted by Pastor Bill West and interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
