John Rowland Greenway, resident of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the age of 67, surrounded by his wife and children. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, John was born September 27, 1956, in Michigan to Phyllis and John Greenway. John was a longtime resident of Newport News, Virginia, and has resided in Gloucester since 2009. John spent the majority of his career as a superintendent with Hourigan and retired in December 2022 after 23 years of service. John also coached and contributed to the overall betterment of Parkview Little League Baseball Park for over 15 years. In his free time, John loved spending time on his dock at home, kayaking, fishing, enjoying the outdoors, and reading. John loved his family and always enjoyed gathering with them and friends. He left this world a better place and will be sorely missed by all.
John was preceded in death by his father, Major General John Ramsey Greenway. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Gosling Greenway; his loving wife of 44 years, Tammy Pittsley Greenway; his children, John C. Greenway (Kelly), Jennifer Greenway Sundin (Reps) and Benjamin D. Greenway (Kate); his brothers, Andrew (Holly), Douglas (Joann), Richard (Regina), Matthew (Hazel); grandsons, Cooper, Jude, Sawyer, Griffin, Reps and Ren, as well as the family members and many other people he held dear. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Abingdon Episcopal Church, 4645 George Washington Memorial Hwy., Gloucester, Va. 23061 from 1-3 p.m., with a reception to follow. Inurnment will be private. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
