John Robert “Bob” Fisher, 77, of Mathews, Va., retired Xerox Corporation employee of 42 years, beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023. Bob was born in York, Pa., to his parents, Robert and Miriam Fisher. Bob’s father was a Lutheran minister and his mother a teacher.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Nancy; his stepsons, Daniel (deceased), Forrest and Todd Usry (Terry); his brother, Peter (Christa) and sisters, Meg (M.D.), and Beth (Tom); his grandchildren, Kristen, Ali, Drew, Maria, August and Mary Elizabeth; his great-grandchildren, Annabel and Fisher Barr, Sutton and Stella Phares, and his nephew and nieces, Tim, Tracy, Meg, and Katie.
Bob was a graduate of Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, but spent most of his early years in Havertown, Pa., where he excelled in all sports and developed lifelong friendships. One friend confided that Bob protected him from bullies throughout high school. He said Bob would silently show up whenever he was being bullied and they would just walk away. That was Bob. He was truly a good man. In 1978, he married Nancy and assumed the role of Dad to three teenage boys who credited him with being the best role model they could have ever had. Bob’s honesty and integrity combined with his delightful sense of humor earned him admiration from all who knew and loved him. It was an honor to be protected and loved by him. His broad shoulders and warm embrace will be missed always.
A Celebration of Life service will be planned at a later date. Bob’s ashes will be placed in the scatter garden at Kingston Parish and on the grounds of the church/parsonage of the Lutheran Church in Havertown. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Finally, we are grateful to Riverside Hospice Care for surrounding us with loving support over the last several months. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
