John Odell Erman, age 91, died on September 1, 2023 at his home in Gloucester Point, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Ethel Erman, and wife Bernice. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Jerry Carmine; granddaughter, Jillian, and great-grandson, Beckett. Odell was an avid gardener, proud to share his seasonal harvest and craft self-watering vessels for his plants. He also enjoyed birdwatching, especially his purple martins. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Naval Weapons Station after 33 years. Memorial services will be private. In memory of Odell, contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
