John O. Galaska, 70, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2011.
He was born in New York on June 2, 1941. A native of Dix Hills, N.Y., he moved to Hampton, Va., in 1979, later moving to Williamsburg, Va., to live with his niece.
Uncle John was a beloved member of the family and loved attending all of his family’s events, often being the one to make everyone laugh. He was particularly loved by the children as they grew up because of his own child-like enthusiasm and warmth.
His interests included fishing, furniture refinishing, gardening, and although he was largely deaf, he was a wonderful dancer, feeling the beat of the music through the soles of his feet.
John spent his last months at Walter Reed Convalescent Center in Gloucester, Va., in the caring and generous hands of many caretakers. His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and unending gratitude for the care they provided.
He is survived by his sister; her husband; three nieces, as well as four grand-nephews and one grand-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Galaska. He will be laid to rest next to his dear mother and father in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Memorial donations may be made to your local Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
