John (Jay) Edward Ashberry Jr., 66, of Foster, Va., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

Jay was a lifelong resident of Mathews County. He was retired from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station after 26 years. He was the owner of John E. Ashberry Jr. Plumbing and Heating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Helen Ashberry, and his daughter, Melanie.

Jay is survived by his faithful, loving companion, Kay Ashberry; daughter, Nancy Ashberry of Richmond; sister, Eileen Lemon of Bedford; brother; Doug (Linda) Ashberry of Mathews, and a grandson, Blaine Callis of Richmond.

The family received friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, from 10-11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va.
