Joan Elizabeth Gerylo, age 57, of Hayes, left for her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born in Rhode Island and was a native of Virginia Beach. Joan and her husband Leonard moved to Gloucester County because of their love of the water and quiet living. She loved road trips with her husband, being on the boat, and cooking. She adored children. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, decorating the tree, arranging the display of her numerous Nutcrackers, and preparing her unparalleled Christmas Bark and her Chocolate Caramel Cashew Squares. Her father, Robert Scherrer, and a sister, Jean Scherrer preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Leonard; mother, Grace M. Scherrer; siblings, Donna Reich, Mary Long (Alan), Eileen Mooring (Chuck), Kevin Scherrer (Julie), Chris Scherrer, and David Scherrer (Carmen), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews, whom she loved as her own. The family received friends on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 10-10:45 a.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service began at 11 o’clock in the chapel, conducted by Chaplain Gregory Booth. The inurnment will be private.
