Jess L. Brown, 83, of Hayes, died Thursday, May 25, 2023.

He was born on April 8, 1940 in Marion, Ky.

He was predeceased by his parents, Roy M. and Mary Bragdon Brown; three sisters, and six brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Guth Brown; sons, Jess A. Brown of Williamsburg, Va., and Robert “Bob” J. Brown of Saluda, Va.; one sister, Fay Brown; two brothers, Ted Brown and Neal Brown; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandsons.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1977 with 20 years of service; he was a Vietnam veteran. He was the owner of Brown’s Propeller and Marine Service in Deltaville, for 15 years. After selling his business, he worked for Bay Equipment in Newport News for many years.

A private service and inurnment will be held at Amelia Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements in care of Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News office.
