Gloucester High School varsity softball players shut out Woodside, 8-0, Monday to improve to 16-1 in Peninsula District standings and maintain a one-game lead over second place Warwick.
Makayla Jenkins got her 14th pitching win of the season with her two-hitter. She struck out 12 batters while only walking one. Shelby Alto led the Dukes with three hits and Morgan Haywood drove in two runs.
Jenkins threw a perfect game in Gloucester’s 18-0 win over Denbigh on Friday. She struck out 14 of 15 batters and contributed two hits and two RBIs. Gabby Zarichny went four-for-four at the plate with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Devon Smith, Alyssa Shackleford and Alto each had two hits in the win.
The Dukes are scheduled to play at Warwick at 4:30 p.m. Friday and still have a home game with Phoebus to make up prior to post-season play.
