The U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Newport News will host two summer sessions of Physics Fest, offering an opportunity for students to explore matter in our everyday world.
This educational, hands-on program features a shocking display of static electricity, a chilling demonstration of cryogenics, and an exploration of scorching hot plasmas. The 75-minute session aims to showcase the science and technology used at Jefferson Lab to conduct experiments, while educating students on the nature of matter.
Science Education Administrator Rhonda Bell will engage students in a series of experiments to understand the forms of matter. Demonstrations will illustrate science concepts with cryogenic liquid by freezing flowers, balls and air inside balloons. Prepare to be amazed as students will also witness the diffraction of light in plasmas.
Physics Fest will take place July 17 and Aug. 7 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. This free program is open to schools,...
