On Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, an angel on earth was taken to her heavenly home far too soon; Jeannie Dunston, 59, died suddenly in her sleep.

Jeannie was born to Calvin and Isabel Haywood on Aug. 2, 1954. She was raised in Mathews, one of three girls, and loved the water even though she never learned to swim.

One of her favorite places has always been New Point Lighthouse. She had fond memories of going to New Point Beach as a child and being near that light.

On Feb. 20, 1973, she married Al Dunston and moved to Gloucester where she remained for the rest of her life. Shortly after getting married she had her first daughter, Anita. Three years later she had her second daughter, Kristy.

She held several jobs over those 40 years, including Wallace and Girlie, Sears Catalog Store, Danny’s Glass and Satellite Auto Glass. The last 10 years she found a home at Peninsulas EMS Council. She loved her PEMS family as much as her own. She will be greatly missed by all by the lives she touched through PEMS.

Jeannie’s pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Isabel, Ryan, Adam, and Nathaniel. She constantly spoke of each of them and showed pictures to anyone that would take a look. A huge hole will be in the lives of each because of the loss of their Mimi and Mammy.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her mother, Isabel Brown Haywood, and her father-in-law, Edwin Dunston.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years Al; her daughters, Anita Burgess and Kristy Dunston and her husband Jason Bucelato; her father and stepmother, Calvin and Christine Haywood; her sisters, Kathy Hudgins and her husband W.P., and Patsy Brooks and her husband Dickie; stepsister, Glenda Owens and her husband Stanford; stepbrother, Nelson Morris and his wife Pam; her four grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Ruby Dunston, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Bellamy United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Waclo.
