Jean Hogge, 88, died peacefully at the Gloucester House on Oct. 2, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Hogge Jr.; her father, Benjamin Thornton; her mother, Ruth Whittington, and her brother, Ben Thornton Jr.
Jean was raised in Baltimore, and enjoyed spending summers with relatives in Gloucester County. She eventually met her husband and made her home in Gloucester Point.
Jean enjoyed traveling, reading, and floral arranging. She was a volunteer at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and was a member of Singleton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Roberta H. James and her husband Andy; her son, Keith T. Hogge and his wife Dina; her grandchildren, Jeff James and his wife Jen, Haley J. Poulson and her husband Chris, and Joshua C. James. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Emili, Ashlen, Charlie, Ella, and Brady, and two step-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Whitney.
The family wishes to thank the Gloucester House staff for their kindness and compassion over the last year. Special thanks also to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospice team who lovingly cared for Jean in her final days.
Visitation was held on Friday, Oct. 4 at Andrews Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Funeral services were private.
