Jayvees tie Cavs, 1-1

The Mathews High School jayvee soccer team played King William to a 1-1 tie on Monday night on the Cavaliers’ home turf.

P.J. Johnson scored the Devils’ lone goal in the middle of the first half, with an assist from Jessie Zeller. This kept the team rallying throughout the first half.

King William came back toward the end of the second half to tie the game.

Defensive players Keinan Triplett, Sam Spadaccini and Amanda Smith worked hard pressuring the Cavaliers’ offense. Jack Vrooman, back from an injury, proved himself to be ready to play for the remainder of the season. Goalkeeper Megan Zeller had seven saves. Johnson had three shots on goal, followed by Adam Wade with two shots.

So far this season, the MHS jayvee squad has tied both of its Tidewater District matches. Last night, the team hosted Middlesex.
