The Mathews High School jayvee volleyball team picked up two hard-fought wins this past week over Essex and Lancaster.
Last Thursday, Mathews battled back from losing the first set (25-20) to win the next two against the visiting Essex Trojans, by scores of 25-16 and 15-8.
The Devils came back very pumped in the last two sets. Kai McCann and Isabelle Turner each had two kills, leading the Devils followed by Whitney Eriksen, Nikkita Parrish, Jackie Stewart and Haley Sullivan with one each. Mathews also served aggressively with three aces came fby McCann, two each from Anna Hudgins and Bailey Kujawski, and one apiece from Turner and Sullivan.
On Tuesday, the girls traveled to Lancaster to face the Red Devils, again dropping the first set (25-19), but coming back fired up to take the next two, 25-17 and 15-11 on strong with serving and hitting.
