Gloucester High School junior varsity baseball players put together a seventh inning rally for a 5-4 comeback win over previously unbeaten Menchville on Friday. The win improved the junior Dukes to 9-2-1 on the season.
Held to five hits through six innings, Gloucester was down 4-1 Friday heading into the bottom half of the seventh. Outfielder Nick Tolefson led off with a single and, after one out, Cody Brown added another base hit. Relief pitcher Nick Brandt helped his own cause with an RBI single to make it 4-2. Brandt was replaced by pinch runner Jacob Pickern, who later scored the tying run.
With two outs and two men on base, designated hitter Wesley Kellum delivered a two-RBI rip to tie the game. Jacob Fuller and Brady Hudgins followed up with singles to load the bases before Michael Diodato sent a drive to centerfield for a walk-off home run. The junior Dukes are scheduled to play at Hampton today.
