Last Wednesday, the Mathews High School jayvee boys basketball team defeated West Point on the road, 57-27. Mathews came out strong, outscoring the Pointers, 12-7 in the first quarter, increasing that lead to 30-11 at the half. The MHS boys were seven for 14 from the foul line.
Quentin Schafer led the way scoring nine points. Kendelle Brooks and Taiwan Forrest were close behind scoring eight points each. Joey Gordon, Ryan Ewell, Josh Wilson and Paul Burnette each scored six points. Cody Kelly scored four and Ian Smith and Dayshaun Williamson scored two apiece.
MHS traveled to Middlesex on Friday and lost to the Chargers, 33-30.
Schafer led the way once again, scoring 12 points. He was helped out by Kelly who scored eight points. Burnette added six points. Wilson scored three points and Ewell scored one. The boys were three for 12 from the line that evening.
On Tuesday, the Devils fell to Northumberland in a non-district match, 48-39. Schafer led the jayvee team with 15 points...
