The Mathews High School jayvee baseball team has been on a roll in the past few weeks, sweeping district and non-district play.
In non-district games, Mathews has defeated Lancaster twice, by scores of 17-6 and 6-1; Essex by a 20-10 margin; and New Kent, 9-6.
In district play, they defeated a tough King William team last Thursday, 6-4. Willie Fernald picked up the win against King William, throwing four innings and allowing only one run. James Cook closed the game.
Offensive leaders for the Devils were Reggie Johnson (two hits, two RBIs) and Marc Griffin (one hit and two RBIs).
The Devils will face Poquoson today in a non-district matchup.
