Janina Lipcius, age 95, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
She was born in Mozyr, Belarus, and lived in Poland, Colombia, Philadelphia, the Bronx, and Tallahassee, Fla., before settling in Williamsburg in 2009, to be with her son’s family. After WWII, she became a nurse and worked in hospitals in the Bronx and Tallahassee until she retired at 75.
Janina enjoyed reading, playing cards, painting, the beauty of the natural world, and especially watching her three grandsons play baseball. She was a devout Catholic and was well liked by all those she met.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martinas Lipcius.
She is survived by son, Romuald, a Professor of Marine Science at the College of William & Mary; her three grandsons, Jesse, a lawyer in Cincinnati, Luc, and André; and her three great-granddaughters, Brooke, Reese, and Hadley.
A private memorial service and burial will be conducted at Saint Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx, where she will be reunited with her husband, Martinas.
