Janet Taylor Sindle, age 90, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on March 28, 2024. She spent her adolescent summers on the Jersey Shore where she met her future husband, Harry. She held many jobs including Executive Secretary for the Vice President of AT&T in New York City and secretary for bank managers of Crestar/SunTrust Banks in Gloucester and Williamsburg. She also was an executive secretary for both Gloucester and James City Counties.
Janet moved with her family to the last house waaayyyyyy out in Ware Neck, Va., in 1963. She raised four rambunctious young children there and, having a famous sailor/salesman/husband away a lot, deserves great praise for not completely losing her sanity!
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard (2009); her husband of 67 years (2020), and brother, Robert. She is survived by her remaining children, Brad (Cheri), Rob (Nancy), Sue King (Jay); 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Kent Taylor (Lou), and her cat, Patches.
She was a member of the Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Gloucester.
The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Peter Zullo, Gloucester Rescue Squad, Riverside Hospice, and home caregivers, Cindy Laughinghouse and Mary Moon, and to her friends who continued to visit during her last years, especially Eva Mullins and Betty Zahn.
There will be a memorial celebration of her and her husband’s lives (Harry died at the beginning of the COVID lockdowns) at the Ware River Yacht Club, where they were founding members, on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 2 p.m.
In memory of Janet, contributions may be made to Gloucester County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
To all those who manage to keep their ailing loved ones at home, God bless your effort.
