James W. Brown, of Hayes, died peacefully at his home July 9, 2012.
Jim was a native of Gloucester County, son of the late Charles C. and Bartow C. Brown, and a 1939 graduate of Botetourt High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and participated in five major combat campaigns.
Jim was a retired Fire Chief from Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and antique cars. During his life Jim valued his friendships and many good times were had with all he knew. Family was always a primary concern and he always reached out to help those he loved. Jim will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Martha H. Brown; daughters, Anna May Olmsted and husband John, Claudia Becknell and husband Gary, Pat Royals and husband Rick; grandchildren, John Jr. and wife Ingrid, Alexander, Jennifer, Jessica, Garet, Kimberly and husband Clay, and Timothy; great-grandsons, Justin and Clayton; faithful canine companion, River.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road. Interment with military honors will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
