James R. Durrette Sr. of Hayes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the age of 84. James served his country with honor and dedication in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and then led a successful career in sales, supervisory positions, and as an underground utility superintendent at Branscomb, where he retired (and then worked some more). He brought joy to those around him with his infectious laughter and love for fishing, spending many peaceful hours by the water. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 2-2:45 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 3 o’clock conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Song and a reception will follow. In memory of our loved one, contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 57, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062, or Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Jimmy will be deeply missed and forever remembered. May he rest in peace.
