James Paul Williams, 74, of Gloucester, Virginia, peacefully passed away after a well-fought battle with cancer on February 9, 2024.
JP was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1949, to James and Louis Williams. He graduated from Anne Arundel High School in Gambrills, Md., before joining the Navy. Serving proudly as a Corpsman and Optician for 24 years, JP dedicated himself to both his country and the well-being of others. Following his military retirement, he found joy and fulfillment working as an optician for Walmart in Tappahannock. Even after his second retirement, he continued to embrace life’s simple pleasures, such as watching baseball, traveling with his family, and indulging in a good, hearty meal with dessert.
James Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin James and Lois Evans Williams of Odenton, Md. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Butcher Williams; his daughter, Patricia W. and her husband, Jay B. Dowdy, and his grandson, Hunter Chase Rilee. Also left to honor his memory are his sister, Beverly Williams (Tom); brothers, John Williams (Julie) and Chuck Williams (Marta); along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also greatly missed by his faithful grand-fur-children, Dottie Mae and Brewer.
Private interment services will be held in Farmville, Va. Flowers, cards, and visits are welcome, and the family also appreciates donations to Wreaths Across America, an organization JP held close to his heart.
Arrangements entrusted to Andrews Funeral Home.
