JAMES NORRIS COLLINS JR.

James Norris Collins Jr., 80, passed peacefully in his Cobbs Creek home on Sunday, July 23, 2023. Known to many as Jim, he was an alumna of Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University) and studied a year at the College of William and Mary. Jim was a Sergeant in the National Guard for six years. He spent much of his life in the Richmond area as the manager of Richmond Deepwater Terminal (Port of Richmond). In 1986, he and his family relocated to Mathews, Virginia, where he then served in the community as an employee of Revere Gas. His interests included hunting, archery, football, and NASCAR. Jim is survived in death by his wife of 57 years, Janie Sterling Collins, as well as his three children, David James Collins, Jenny Collins Scherer, and Jack Norris Collins. Jim leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, Shannon, Savannah, Nicholas, Kaylee, Judd, Anna-James, and Jack.

There will be a celebration of life at a future date. In lieu of florals, the family has asked that donations be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad for their unyielding dedication to the citizens of Mathews County, to whom the family is eternally grateful. “ ’Tis grace that brought me to safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.”
