Jack H. Austin, 78, of Hayes, was called home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was a native of Asheville, N.C., and had been a resident of Gloucester for 45 years. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He retired after a successful career at Newport News Shipbuilding, X42 Department. Jack was an honorable man dedicated and passionate about his family, church and country. He was a member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church for many years. Jack was a dedicated father. He was also a coach for Little League baseball, basketball and football as well as being a Boy Scout leader.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
He was preceded in death by son, Billy Austin and parents, Thad B. and Willie Mae Austin.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Stella D. Austin; son, Steve Austin; daughter, Kim Heath and husband Billy; granddaughter, Mackenzie Heath; brothers, Bill L. Austin and wife Maxine and Johnny L. Austin and wife Margaret, and sister, Judy Vallencourt and husband Bobby.
Graveside funeral service with military honors, officiated by the Rev. Bill McCullough was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Friends assembled at the cemetery. Following the service everyone was invited to Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church for food and fellowship with the family.
The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration, Compassionate Care Hospice, and Dr. Scott Kruger for the exceptional care given to Jack.
