Iva Belvin, age 91, of Mathews County, formerly of Gloucester Point, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 18, 2024, surrounded by family. Iva was born in Mathews to Luther and Maude Thomas of Peary. She was the youngest of four children. Iva spent 40 years at Eastern State Hospital Accounting Department; she earned her CPA degree from William & Mary College while doing so. Iva was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, where she served on numerous committees throughout the years. Towards the end of her life, she visited Locust Grove Church of Mathews. Iva volunteered at several organizations throughout Gloucester County over the last 70+ years. Although she regretted having to leave her home that she and her husband built in Gloucester Point, due to health issues, she was certainly glad to be back in Mathews County, where she said she was “back to her roots.” Iva was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Warren H. Belvin; her parents; two sisters, Miriam Callis and Jeneill Rowe; her brother, Aubrey Thomas; two nephews Melvin and Keith Callis. The family would like to thank Riverside Hospice for her care at the end of her life; especially Emily, Angela, Amanda, Virginia, and Marie. In memory of Iva, contributions may be made to Locust Grove Church, 1832 Windsor Road, Dutton, Va. 23050, or to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061. The family received friends on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2-3 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at Gloucester Point Cemetery on Monday, April 22, 2024, conducted by Locust Grove’s Pastor Booker Brown, beginning at 2 p.m.
